Book Description:

Their story continues . . .

The four Boston clairvoyants, blessed—or cursed—with special powers, must fight a ruthless enemy and stop injustice. In Dead Cat, Run, the Sisters of Fate drove them together, but at what cost? The God Apollo wasn’t playing around. He’s still dead set on vengeance.

Sinister forces will have a wicked agenda. An energy grab, a mineral rights war, and deadly mercenaries create a mortally serious game. But the psychics’ sibylline abilities aside, they’re only human. At least three of them are. (What’s up with that?)

Can they stop the killers? And who will survive?

An energetic contemporary thriller, Cut and Run will have you on the edge of your seat as the dance between good and evil resumes.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

In Cut and Run the story continues from the first book in this series, Dead Cat, Run. The story continues of four Boston clairvoyants, blessed—or cursed—with special powers, and their dog Bone. I did not read Dead Cat, Run and I realized to late that I should have. Where this book can certainly be read as a stand alone, I think it would have been easier to know the characters and what's going on before I started Cut and Run. However that didn't happen so, author Annabelle Lewis does a really nice job of preparing readers for Cut and Run. I found these four characters pretty evil, but they did develop well throughout the story. I rarely read paranormal and supernatural mystery and suspense reads, so this was a pretty new thing for me. I was surprised that I did actually enjoy this story very much. It is well written and the plot flows well. There's a lot of action and twists and turns that keep you wanting to read to find out what's going on next. If you enjoy paranormal and supernatural type books, you will find Cut and Run, and well as the first book in the series, Dead Cat, Run and enjoyable and entertaining read. I would suggest reading them in order. Cut and Run is Four Stars for me.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Content Rating: PG-13: Lots of cursing, some non-graphic sex and violence

 Book Description:

You’re where you’re meant to be. Run, if you can.

High school senior Jenny Gallagher’s psychic abilities have made life in her small New England town rocky. Her premonitions and déjà vu have given her a reputation, one she’s not happy with. Tragedy is about to strike, however, and oddly, this time, she doesn’t see it coming. Is her gift betraying her?

Not far from Jenny, Wellesley Professor Maximus Dyer also has a gift—a painful and useless one. His ability to see the past has brought him insight into history, but otherwise, he’s never known what to make of it. The psychic shocks he receives through his unprotected hands have made any genuine human relationships beyond his grasp. Then someone who doesn’t trigger a vision enters his life—a dog?

Sidrah Keeling runs determinedly optimistic throughout her life, trying hard not to ask the big questions about why. Her foresight, her ability to see glimpses of the future in her dreams, often drives her to follow a path she doesn’t understand. Alert and listening, with the guardrails of security she’s erected in place, she’s forced again to follow her

dreams. This time to a man. Who is he?

Lurking deep in his sensory deprivation tank, Turner Black sees it all. Born out of the great chaos of time, he once again feels the forces of good gathering to move against him. Not in this life. This time, his darkness will reign supreme. The hunt for his antithesis will begin again now. He can’t wait to feel his opponent in destiny bleed.

A fast-paced contemporary mystery thriller with a supernatural hierarchy, Dead Cat, Run will keep you up all night, glued to your seat.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is the sweetest story about twin sisters, Alexia and Denise. The twins are alike in that they look like each other, but they are also very different. Brielle and Nadia Dupervil both do a wonderful job of telling the difference in the twins. And in telling how they are so different. This is especially a wonderful story for the twins in your family, or maybe in other families you know. This is a sweet book every set of twins need in their library.

I love the beautiful illustrations that bring the story to life, as well as the entire book to life with their beautiful vibrant colors and unique characters. Don't miss out on this great little read. Twin Tales: Alike and Different by Brielle and Nadia Dupervil is Four Stars for me.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

BOBOS BABES ADVENTURES: A MAGICAL HALLOWEEN is the second book I've read by Karen M. Bobos, and both books have been a delight to read. A MAGICAL HALLOWEEN is about three Bobo's friends and their new Halloween costumes for this year. But when they finally opened the box where the mask were in, they were sad that all three had a clear mask. Now everyone would see then, but then as they put their mask on, something magical happens. And you need to read the book to find out what it is.

A Magical Halloween is a perfect addition to the Bobo's Babes collection. This is a must read for children everywhere as Halloween approaches in 2021. The rhyming story is exciting and fun and the illustrations are so very adorable. I love how each page perfectly fits the story. This book with illustrations bringing the story to life is five Stars for me. I know your children will love this as much as the children in my life do.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

NOW JOIN ME IN THIS SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR

A Magical Halloween is your 4th published Bobos Babes Adventure. How long does it take you to write a Bobos Babes Adventure?

It depends. During the summer of 2020, my wellness business was at a standstill, so-to-speak, and I was writing to entertain my children. I wrote a book a week. Now that I am full speed ahead with book tours, YouTube videos, marketing campaigns, and launching a book every three to four months . . . and being a mom of three little girls, wife, running my wellness business and managing our home, I write when I can. Did I mention my husband is now working out of town during the week? Thank you, Covid. So, I’ll re-phrase that, “I am a single mom during the week.” I have been working on the same book for a couple of months. I desperately try to write once a week to feel like me.  Writing is my therapy to feel normal.

Where do you write?

Everywhere. Right now, I am on my laptop watching my kids’ ice-skating lesson. I am a busy mom of three little girls under eight. I write while they are in school, gymnastics, eating

dinner… I get a lot done when I let them play on their tablets, but it’s a catch 22 as I try to manage their screen time. My dream, when I am retired, is to have a beautiful office overlooking a quiet lake or even overlooking a private beach on the ocean where I can write and do nothing else.

Do you have any pet peeves when reading a book?

Grammar. I’m obsessed with proper grammar. My bachelor’s degree is in English. I have a hard time reading stories to my children without noticing missing commas or lack of quotations when someone is speaking. I try hard to just “let it go.” I’m probably jinxing myself by writing this. Hopefully, my interview isn’t filled with grammatical errors. LOL

Do you wish you started writing sooner?

I’ve been writing forever. I started writing in fourth grade and had an amazing teacher who was sending in my work to the newspaper and magazines. However, my first book was published in December 2020. I am a firm believer that we are on a journey and things happen when they are supposed to happen. I wouldn’t have been able to write about my children until I had them. Their characters and personalities are based on who they are. Cora is swift because I

cannot keep up with her. Scarlett has angel skin because of her rare skin disease. Daphne is so silly and comforting. It all just fits and makes sense.

What advice would you give other authors?

The same advice that I give myself, “Don’t give up!” Just start writing, and try to stay focused. I always think, “At least my daughters will have these stories to remember how much mom loved them.”

AUTHOR KAREN BOBOS

Meet the Author:

Karen M. Bobos began writing poetry and stories at the early age of ten. She is a life-long Chicagoan who now raises her family in the downtown area. During the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, Chicago also became a city of unrest. Trying to keep her three young daughters in a world of magic during such scary times, the Bobos Babes Adventures were born. Her goal was to create a world of Harmony for her family and hopefully for others to escape, even if only for a moment.

The first book of the series, The Case of the Giggles, was published in December 2020. The Missing Egg launched in March 2021. The Lion's Secret was published in June 2021, a tribute to her mother and late father's incredible love story.  The Lovey That Came to Life and The Bobcat Birthday Party will be releasing in the upcoming months.

Tour dates: October 12 to October 25, 2021
Content Rating:  PG-13 + M: Author's Note: Children's mental health is a growing concern in today's schools. Often kids suffer in silence because of the stigma attached to their mental health needs. Mental health organizations such as the Canadian Mental Health Association work hard to change this mindset. It can't come soon enough. As a teacher, I worked with troubled teens and saw firsthand the devastating effects of their silence. With this in mind, I began writing The Keepers, for if I could help just one "Alexandre" find his voice, my efforts would be well worth it. There are a couple of mature scenes and a few sentences here and there of bad language reflective of the events in a life of a character coming-of-age.

Book Description:

Despite struggling to raise a troubled teenage son on her own, Beth Marshall has no intention of selling her beloved vineyard and moving to the city where her ex-boyfriend awaits with open arms. She has strong ties to the land, where she is happy living with her granddad and aunt in the old farmhouse, so when she gets an offer to sell her property, she turns it down. Meanwhile, a writer recovering from a shattering past moves into the guest house, tugging at her heart. She's not going anywhere.

But after her granddad discovers a dead body in their shed, Beth fights jail time. She can't imagine a worse nightmare until she gets a call in the middle of the night with shocking news about her son!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When I read the title of this book, Grace Under Siege, Not A Love Story,  I wondered what it meant. Now I know that this is definitely not a Love story. It is a story of domestic abuse. I like the way René Voland tackles this devastating issue that is so intense and very emotional. The faith running through the story gives hope that with God, you are not alone at any time, and you can call on Him. Voland creates characters that develop well and are realistic enough that readers can relate. Sadly domestic abuse is not only in a fiction book, it's in real life, and I like the tips in the book that can help other get through their issues. Grace Under Siege is well written and the details show how much research went into this story. If you are going through an abuse relationship, this would be a good book to read. Or if you know someone in this situation, gift them a copy. This one is getting Four Stars from me.

Book Description:

Fearing
an invasion by German and Japanese forces during World War II, the U.S. Coast Guard enlisted horsemen to patrol the beaches along the east and west coasts. The unit was called "The Sand Pounders" and they rode their horses up and down the beaches from 1942 to 1944.

In Tillamook, Oregon, a young equestrian decided to join them. There was only one

problem...they were only accepting men. That didn't slow her down.

"The Sand Pounder" is a Young Adult historical fiction set during World War II.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The Sand Pounder - Love and Drama on Horseback in WWII by M. J. Evans is a different take on WWII stories I am use to reading. I have to admit, I didn't know what a Sand Pounder did before I read this book. I appreciate the attention to detail Evans shows readers in this book. I found myself learning several new things as I read this book. I enjoyed the carefully crafted characters and their development throughout the plot. John, aka Jane was fabulous! She played her part in the story so very well, and didn't mind having to dwell with the other men. She was more concerned about doing the job she came to do. Will she be found out? Well, this is a reason you need to read this book. You will love the easy reading of author M. J. Evans as she tells this story through the eye of young Jane. If you want a good clean read or know a young person that loves to read, this would be a wonderful choice. And those of you who are WWII bugging, you will enjoy this different take on the war. I encourage you to pick up your copy today.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Guest Post for

The Sand Pounder by M.J. Evans

Why I Love to Write!

I am so honored to be asked to write a post for “Splashes of Joy.” The title of this blog fits my book, “The Sand Pounder – Love and Drama on Horseback in WWII,” perfectly. Jane, the protagonist in this historical fiction expresses how much joy galloping down the beach on the back of her horse brings to her. I could change that to “M.J. Evans finds joy splashing through the waves while galloping down the beach on the back of her horse!”

Writing is the older sister of reading for me. The joy I received getting lost is a book is the same joy multiplied several times by writing. When writing fantasy, I get to let my imagination go wild. When writing historical fiction, I get to add twists and turns to the factual information I dig up doing research. All of it is a very creative and satisfying experience.

As a mother of five fabulous children, (one girl and four boys,) I never allowed them to say: “I’m bored.” I responded by reminding them that smart people never get bored. I told them, “We Evans’ can always use our imagination to create an adventure in our heads.”

Writing is like that. As an author, I create an adventure in my head. Then I spend hours and hours writing it down to share with the world. Creating beautiful prose is part of the artistry involved. I always say: “I am an artist with words.”

Writing takes practice so don’t expect to get it perfect the first time. I can’t tell you how many revisions I make on each book. But don’t give up. You’ll get there and your masterpiece will be something you can be proud of!

I hope you enjoy reading “The Sand Pounder – Love and Drama on Horseback in WWII.” Please post a review on Amazon and Goodreads and tell your friends about it!

Nominated for the prestigious Audie Award, Best Fiction 2021

Book Description:

A nutty religious cult rustles a herd of prime gazebos (huh??) and it’s up to bumbling P.I. Mars Candiotti to rescue them. Wannabe author Mars chronicles his quest in Jeffrey Hanlon's rom-com mystery Zither.

Guided by his magically prescient IHOP waitress, Mars strives to mitigate the shocking global consequences of the gazebo heist, even though he has no idea what the word mitigate means.

As Zither swallows its own tale, Mars finds it increasingly tricky to distinguish between real people and his rambunctious fictional characters. Zither becomes the romper room where his reality meets fantasy - and get frisky with each other.

Mars’ international odyssey leads to an explosive conclusion in Panama. Teevees around the world tune in to watch live coverage of “Carnage in the Canal”.

And amid the lunatic havoc that is Zither there is (of course!) an epic love story as Mars meets Marian, the brainy librarian he had dreamt of. Marian says his books are "slapstick existentialism with subjective reality couched in parable". (This is news to Mars). But is Marian real, or just another illusion in Zither World?

And in Mars’ klutzy (yet endearing) courtship of the enchanting Marian will he ever muster the nerve to ask her for a date???

MEET THE AUTHOR:

I was born in a Southern California beach town.

My family moved to Northwest Oregon when I was 7. Or maybe when I was 8.

Had we stayed in the Beach Boys town, and knowing myself as I do now, I suspect I would have grown long hair, started a rock band, and been heavily into drugs. The rock band would probably have been pretty good. The rest of it, not so much. I’d likely have joined the ranks of those like Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin.

We moved to a mountaintop. The last five miles to get there were gravel. The final two miles were steep and to the end of the road.

That’s where we lived: the end of the road, 22 miles to the nearest town.

Our closest neighbor, about a mile down the road, was a hermit who lived in a shack. He had a goat. About once a month the goat would visit us. Then the hermit would show up to retrieve his goat. I think the goat liked us better than the hermit, which is why the goat kept showing up. Goats are funny animals. I think they aspire to be house pets.

And speaking of animals, we had cats. Lots and lots of cats. Because we were remote and at the end of the road, unkind people – and ‘unkind’ is the kindest description I can use here – would dump their unwanted cats on or near our property. The cats would find our house. We gave them Fancy Feast and our love, and in turn they loved us.

My childhood friends didn’t visit too often. That was at least partly because when they did show up my father would say something like this: “Great! We have a job that could use an extra hand. Won’t take more than five minutes.” Well, that five minutes usually turned into an hour or two – volunteer labor! – and that friend would seldom visit again.

So my favorite childhood playmate was a 2000 pound Hereford bull, a big boy with horns spanning three feet. I’d go out in the pasture and the bull would strike a pose not unlike what you’ve seen in the movies where the bull was ready to charge, head down, eyeing me. But he wasn’t going to charge me. He just wanted his forehead scratched. And so I would scratch his forehead. He liked that, shaking his head every so often to show his approval. Then we’d elevate to a game that the bull might have called ‘Let’s see how far we can toss this little kid!’ and I’d place my right hip against his massive head and he’d toss me into the air like a sack of flour. Over and over, farther and farther, higher and higher. I could have done that for hours – I can fly! – but after a few tosses the bull would grow bored with the game and wander off. Probably to chase some cute heifers.

The nearest library was 30 miles away, and we ventured there often. It was a majestic old building, and the Grand Room had books on all four walls with reading chairs in the center. But that was not where I wanted to be. I figured all those books were popular books or books I was supposed to read. I wanted something different, so I would enter the room with a small sign that said ‘Stacks’. It was row after narrow row after row of books, floor to ceiling, dimly lit, dusty. It was like entering a cave. Filled with treasures!
It was in those Stacks that I discovered the likes of Kerouac and Heller and Huxley and Fowles and Steinbeck and Ellison and Bradbury and Hemingway and many many others.

As Stephen King said, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.”

And those, each in their own way, was the inspiration for the first book I wrote at the age of eight or nine: ‘Pond Scum’.

It was illustrated.

Jeffrey currently lives at an undisclosed location on the shores of the Caribbean where he spends his days is shorts and sandals making up stories.

He has a pet goat.

What's Not Said Valerie Taylor

Book Description:

What’s Not Said is a story about Kassie O’Callaghan, a middle-aged woman on a mission to divorce her emotionally abusive husband and start a new life with a younger man she met while on a solo vacation in Venice. When she learns her husband has chronic kidney disease, her plans collapse until she pokes around his pajama drawer and discovers his illness is the least of his deceits.

Then again, Kassie is no angel. The separate lives they lead collide head-on into a tangled web of sex, lies, and DNA. As she helps her husband find an organ donor, Kassie uncovers a secret, forcing her to decide whose life to save: her husband’s or her own

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

What's Not Said is the debut novel from author Valerie Taylor and it is the first book in her What's Not Said series. It is clear Kassie is not happy being with her husband and not happy with her life. After all she is cheating on him with a much younger guy, with plans to divorce her husband. But when she finds out her he has a chronic kidney disease and is quite ill, the divorce is off, that is until she finds something in her husband's drawer that proves his deceit as well. This is quite the back and forth story and there are twists and turns that will through readers off chorus, so it makes you want to keep reading to see who is doing what next.

What's Not Said is well written with well created character that are pretty realistic. I have to admit that it is more of an adult story than I was expecting so I did skip over a lot of it to get to the main storyline. This would be good for those who enjoy a good contemporary romance. I think this one is a Four Stars for me.

What’s Not True…is an enthralling, character-driven story that will appeal irresistibly to fans of women’s fiction…Taylor’s prose is crystalline…she does not waste words, rather using them to create a tense, nerve-shredder that

offers full entertainment to readers.”Readers’ Favorite 5-star review

Book Description:

With her court date set for her divorce and her plans with the younger man in the rearview mirror, Kassie O’Callaghan shifts attention to reviving her stalled career. But things get complicated when she unexpectedly rendezvous with her former lover in Paris. After a chance meeting there with a colleague and a stroll along Pont Neuf, Kassie receives two compelling proposals. Can she accept them both?

But Kassie’s decision process screeches to a halt when her soon-to-be ex-husband has a heart attack, forcing her to fly home to Boston. There, she confronts his conniving and deceitful fiancée—a woman who wants not just a ring on her finger but everything that belongs to Kassie. In the ensuing battle to protect what’s legally and rightfully hers, Kassie discovers that sometimes it’s what’s not true that can set you free.

Though a standalone novel, What’s Not True is the sequel to What’s Not Said (September 15, 2020).

Interview with Valerie Taylor

Author of What’s Not Said (She Writes Press, September 2020) and What’s Not True (She Writes Press, August 24, 2021)

How many books will be in the WHAT’S NOT Series?

Now that What’s Not True is available everywhere, I have fondly labeled my work the WHAT’S NOT  Series, and it seems to be catching on! If you say something enough times, folks often adopt it in their own lexicon.

While What’s Not Said was originally written as a standalone, What’s Not True was written purposely to end with a cliffhanger. I’m in the process of writing the third book, yet to be formally named, but it will obviously carry the WHAT’S NOT in its title. So soon, I’ll be able to call it the WHAT’S NOT Trilogy.

Are there any scenes in your novels that are autobiographical?

A common piece of advice aspiring authors receive is to “write what you know.” The basic plots of both What’s Not Said and What Not True are totally fictional, as are the characters. However, in retrospect, I’d say the first book, What’s Not Said, had more elements in it that are autobiographical than the second book, What’s Not True. Perhaps that means I evolved as a writer by the time I got to book two!

In What’s Not Said, Kassie’s father dies when she’s young, and so did my dad. And like Kassie, I had a wicked stepfather and a mother who died of cancer. In What’s Not True, two of the characters live in Charlestown, MA, as did I once upon a time. Kassie and I both are allergic to pomegranates and are huge Boston Red Sox fans. Bad Kassie’s—Kassie’s alter ego—mimics a nickname a colleague had given me years ago—Bad Malerie.

How many books do you read each year and do you have a favorite genre?

Before I retired and worked 50 to 60 hours a week, I was ecstatic to read 12 books a year. That was my goal. Of course, this was before eReaders and audiobooks became as popular as they are today. Each year I tried to read a cross-section of genres—historical and contemporary fiction to balance the non-fiction books I generally read for self-help or business/career purposes.

Once I retired in 2016, I set a new goal to read 30 books each year. Last year I read 39 books! I think I changed my goal to 40 on Goodreads for 2021. I’ll need to check my progress! These days, I read a lot of fiction, as my need or desire for non-fiction has lessened. I have discovered short stories this year, which I enjoy, obviously, for the succinct storylines, fast pace, and the sense of accomplishment I feel when I complete each story!

How has social media impacted your life as an author?

Social media? Love it! Hate it! Before What’s Not Said was published I was barely on Facebook. In fact, I don’t think I was. But then everyone says we must have a presence there. So I do, and in the last 18 months, I’ve built a following of more than a thousand. Now I know that’s not huge, but it’s steadily growing.

Little did we authors know, though, how critical social media would become once the pandemic hit in March 2020. As you know, all public events were cancelled. Many still are. The only way for us to reach our audience, to launch our books, to stay in touch became social media. As such, I’m relatively active on Instagram and Twitter, as well as Facebook. I’d love to have you follow me. The links are below.

Will there be new characters in the third book of the WHAT’S NOT Series?

As a matter of fact, there’s a new villain to challenge Kassie, the protagonist, and there is a new secondary character that I’ll be introducing. My overall goal is to spin off the new secondary character into a new series; perhaps a cozy mystery that wouldn’t include the main characters in the WHAT’S NOT Series, but create a whole new cast of characters. More than likely, the main setting will still be in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island area. Not sure if there’ll be any European intrigue in it. I’m still exploring the idea!
