He may have signed on for more than he expected though--and he may have found the one woman who can keep him from moving on. No Match for Love Andrew can't fathom how refined Lucy ended up as the caretaker to his dotty aunt, and somehow her arrival has prompted even more bizarre occurrences around the ranch. When they join forces to unearth the truth, will the attraction between Andrew and Lucy develop into more? Meeting Her Match When the tables are turned and a tenderhearted meddler becomes the beneficiary of a matchmaking scheme, her world is turned upside down. As her entire life changes, will she finally be able to tell the banker's son how much she cares for him?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I just love this book. Each story is so sweet and special and there is no way I would pick a favorite? I mean, Karen Witemeyer, Connealy, Regina Jennings and Carol Cox are for of my top rated authors so I knew every story had to be top rated! And I love having a book with four novella's because sometimes you just don't have time for a full book. Each of these stories turn out to be a beautiful love story. Though the couples don't know it for a while. I enjoyed the matchmaking and the journey of each of these four couples. The all make for a Heartwarming read. If you don't have time to read a big book at this time, check this one out. Or if you are like me and just need a shorter story for a while, this us an amazing one to check out! Plant Your Money Tree offers readers a strategic and actionable way to look at their financial life with a completely new attitude of confidence, empowering them to make smart decisions regarding:

  • What to do with their money
  • How to grow their money
  • When to make smart personal choices such as changing careers, guiding their kid's education, expanding their business, buying a house, putting money in a savings account, capitalizing on social trends and investing in the future

With that knowledge, readers will gain insight plus have practical, smart options for what to do with their finances.

Mish holds the readers' hands every step of the way with her welcoming and easy to understand language. Schneider does not endorse passive or buy-and-hold type investing. Rather, she teaches readers an evergreen methodology that adapts to every market scenario.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

For the most part, investing money is over my head. I guess I always feel I will invest in the wrong thing. So this book looked interesting and I wanted to see what it is all about. I wish I'd had this many years ago. Author Michele Schneider does an excellent job of explaining the six most essential sectors of the U.S. economy as seen through six market phases ---bullish, caution, distribution, bearish, recuperation, and accumulation. This was kinda Greek to me until I actually slowly broke it down and very slowly went over it many times. I still don't understand it fully, but I know much more than I did. Figure I will give it to my son, he's wanting to better understand the market. There is a wealth of information in this book. There is no way you can grasp it all just by reading through the book one time. This takes studying the book good time. I would suggest picking the information you want to learn first, depending on your knowledge, and going from there.

I am really glad to get my hands on a book such as this. It is a resource book that will stay in our family. The book cover is attractive enough to be on a coffee table for a discussion opener! If investing of any kind is something you have wanted to know more about, pick up a copy of Plant Your Money Tree: A Guide to Growing Your Wealth. I think you will find it most helpful! This book is a 5 stars for me.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am including this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Guess Post from Michelle Schneider

Why Saving Money is Not Necessarily the Best Way to Make Money

I come from a family that did not religiously put money in a savings bank. In his book Money Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps To Financial Freedom, Simon & Schuster 2014, Tony Robbins writes that, “the key to success: you have to make your savings automatic.” Sounds so simple yet, it is not the easiest goal to accomplish. Mr. Robbins goes on to write about “Theodore Johnson, whose first job was with the newly formed United Parcel Service in 1924.”

He writes that Johnson worked hard never making more than $14,000 per year. Considering I was making less that that 30 years later, I imagine $14k was a handsome sum of money back in the 1920’s. Mr. Robbins goes on to say that; Johnson “set aside 20% of every paycheck he received and every Christmas bonus and put it into the company stock.” (Robbins, 2014)

Now, we are getting somewhere. Johnson first off, knew to put his money in the company’s stock. Either UPS had a stock plan for employees or he simply had the good common sense to realize that UPS could grow and was a smart “supply side” investment. By the time Johnson was 90 years old, the UPS stock soared yielding him over $70 million.

Suzi Orman- “Try Harder to Save”

Her rule of thumb is simple; money you know you need or want to spend in the next few years is savings. Money you keep handy for an emergency belongs in savings. Money you hope to use soon for a down payment on a house belongs in savings. And, all savings belong in a low-risk bank savings account or money market account. The goal is to keep your money safe so that when you go to use it, it will be there.

Money you won’t need to use for at least seven years is money for investing. The goal here is to have your account grow over time to help you finance a distant goal, such as building a retirement fund. Since your goal is in the future, money for investing belongs in stocks. Suze Orman’s 10 Tips for a Fresh Financial Start, O, The Oprah Magazine, January 2009

She’s right of course-on paper. But, what happens if folks do not want to put their money in the bank because they do not collect interest? What happens when they charge you to put your money in the bank as is happening in many places in Europe with negative interest rates?

In a zero to negative interest rate environment, I suggest you learn more about the different types of bank deposit accounts offered in a FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) bank.

And, an offshoot of these historical low interest rates is that the stock market has prospered. Corporations pay nothing to borrow money. And flushed with cash, many corporations have maintained high dividends and profits for their shareholders.

Therefore, now is a good time to consider changing your mindset from saving money to investing money.

After all, with zero interest rates and a market that recently ran to new all-time highs, I still would not think “buy and hold” as we consider why the rates are so low (sputtering economies, global pandemic, huge job losses). However, I would consider taking the time to read about how to take advantage of the stock market (like my book for example!)

Author Interview

Tell us about your first published book? What was the journey like?

Plant Your Money Tree: A Guide to Growing Your Wealth took me four years to write, six days to find an agent and 30 days to find a publisher once my agent sent it out. That made the journey all so sweet.  I wanted to write a book that could appeal to lay people in a way that had not been done before. That it found its way to a publisher so quickly was exhilarating and encouraging that I am on the right path

What is the key theme and/or message in the book?

The key theme is that all people have more sense about investments, whether it be on Wall Street, in their own career futures, what major their kids should focus on, buying a house or borrowing money, then they give themselves credit for. With a simple navigation system, now folks have a compass to guide them on those decisions.

I wanted to hit the middle of two genres-wealth books that tend to be condescending-“Save your money, diversify your assets, live beneath your means,” and technical guide books that are intimidating to general audiences. This is what I hoped I achieved with this book.

Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?

Yes. In the theme of making Wall Street and money decisions more accessible to a mainstream audience, I am writing a book on what I call the Economic Modern Family (which I briefly cover in Plant.) This is a compilation of six humanized characters with visual depictions, that represent the most important aspects of the economy. Having faces and characters that represent sectors like Retail or Biotechnology, offers readers a completely unique way to grasp what drives the economy and the markets.

What inspired you to start writing?

I’ve been writing since I was a kid. In grade school I wrote about the contrast between horror and beauty. Later, I wrote poetry and short stories. As a professional education consultant, I wrote up long observations and suggestions that were circulated in school districts for including kids with disabilities in general education. I finance I write Daily blogs and articles for several magazines. So, it seemed to me a next step to write a full book-and with a great editor to keep me inspired, it happened.

What is your work schedule like when you are writing?

I am always writing something. I spend a lot of my day tweeting to the financial community. I end my day by writing a blog. I believe the more you write the easier it is to write. For the book and the next one though, I do have a specific schedule. I write for 2-3 hours a day just for the book. I wish I could devote more time to it, but I have a full-time job in finance so allocation and discipline is key.

A Ranger for the Twins by Tanya Agler

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

A Ranger for the Twins By Tanya Agler Contemporary Romance Paperback & ebook, 384 Pages October 6, 2020 by Harlequin Heartwarming

She fell from grace…

Before falling for him

When her husband defrauded the town of Hollydale, now-divorced mom Lucie Decker went from being the town darling to total pariah. Now she’s launching a new business and needs ranger Caleb Spindler’s help. And her twins adore Caleb. After all, he’s a genuine hero—even if he is hiding a secret. But while Lucie’s heart has forgotten how to trust, it still remembers how to fall in love…

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Lucie is trying to regain her life after her divorce. With her husband in jail for cheating so many people out of money, it was somewhat embarrassing and very difficult. But with her headstrong determination, she will make it work. With Caleb Spindler’s help.

I so much enjoyed this sweet Heartwarming romance. Lucie and Caleb works so well together and their budding relationship is fun and interesting to watch. I was interested in Lucie's new business, it was fascinating to journey with her from the beginning of remodeling to the new clients and the different aspects of the business. There were a lot of characters, different yet interesting and the story was quite realistic because I felt I was among friends while I was reading and for that reason I didn't want the book to end. My favorite characters were the adorable twins. Their sweetness adds an element to the story that just makes it shine. And I love love the interaction between the twins and Caleb and the love they have for him just melts my heart.

If you are ready for a sweet Heartwarming romance, Hallmark style, this is a great book for you to check out. This is sure a book for you Romance readers out there. And it is a nice clean one too!!

There, he stumbles upon a sinister Nazi plot that targets hundreds of people in Britain—including the most powerful man in the country. The one person who might be able to defeat Adolf Hitler. With the Germans threatening to invade England at any moment, Käfer musters all his courage and ingenuity in a valiant effort to thwart the Nazis. But will he succeed in time to save the day? One Boy’s War, the sequel to Boy from Berlin, is inspired by real people and historical events.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

One boys is the exciting sequel to Boy from Berlin. We get to know more of Käfer's story in this book. He gets more involved than before in his family, as well as England. And being a middle grade book this is great for the young reader and adults alike.

I enjoyed this book just as much as the first book in this series. Author Nancy McDonald does a fantastic job of describing each scene in this book to make readers, and made me feel like I was in England back in the early 1940's. The characters were engaging, and they all played their parts well throughout the story. I couldn't put this book down. It is a short story and can be read in one sitting, as I did. Or it can be read by chapter, whatever you have time for works!

Nancy McDonald did a very good job writing this book as well as the first book. Her writing skills were amazing, and she was able to pack a lot of intriguing information into one short book. If you enjoy war stories, this is a must read! I highly encourage you to check out One Boy's War as well as Boy from Berlin! You can't go wrong with either book!! This book gets 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me!

Whether in looks, cultural background, physical prowess, or academic excellence, there are no two children exactly alike. Different Like Me helps them know that being unique is good and that God has made them as they are for a purpose.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Different Like Me is a different kind of kids book because it teaches children that no matter how different they may be, it's ok. That we are all unique to God, and He still loves us just as we are. Sadly, there is so much division in the world today, it's easy for kids and adults alike to struggle with this issue. This book is for our world today, and I think it should be in every household, school, daycare, church and anywhere else children may be.

Author Xochitl (So-Cheel) E. Dixon Dixon opens her heart and speaks to each of us through the wonderful and adorable characters in this book. I love each of them and their differences. She includes scripture in the book as well as discussion questions to help kids open up and share their feelings if they want to. Especially anyone who has disabilities or anything different than others.

And I can't forget Bonnie Lui’s amazing illustrations. They are absolutely adorable and fit with the story so perfectly. I love that she includes about every way a child may be different. And how special is this, when a child can actually see a picture of their different self! Everything in this book is just wonderful in every way! This book is a 5 plus stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ all the way!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

**And a note to the author, away from my review. Thank you for your guest post! Reading this helped me get a better feel of why you wrote this book. I'm sorry for the rude people you and your family have faced. But I am so happy you took these situations and wrote a book to help others deal with the same issues you have. I appreciate you writing Different Like Me!**

Why I Wrote Different Like Me

What are you?

That question used to trigger anger, frustration, and sadness, especially when people responded in disbelief because my answer didn’t fit the stereotypes they’d accepted as truth. My insecurities deepened, causing me to hate my own light-but-not-white reflection. Years later, when I became a mom of two black sons, I didn’t want them to suffer similar insecurities. I didn’t want them to think their worth as people could be determined by the opinions, expectations, or biases of others. I wanted my sons to love God, to love the way God created them, and to love all the people God created. But my desires and best-intentions couldn’t protect them the ignorance and hate so prevalent in our fallen world.

One day, during a trip to an ice cream shop, an adult male glared at my five-year-old son and said, “What are you?” The sting of his words ripped the scar off the wound on my heart that I thought had healed.

Asking God to help me forgive, I sought ways to help my sons rejoice in their uniqueness and God’s creativity in designing all of His people. While studying my Bible, I began learning how to embrace my identity in Christ. The more I learned about God’s love for me, the more I began to accept I worth loving and the more I began to love others.

I wrote Different Like Me in 2001, shortly after receiving Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Originally, I had planned to use the poem to teach my sons how to celebrate our differences and our sameness as God’s beautifully diverse and purposefully connected people. But the Lord kept nudging me to share the story with others.

In 2016, my agent and an editor read Different Like Me, loved it, but couldn’t move forward with publication. The following year, I signed a contract for my first full-length devotional, Waiting for God: Trusting Daily in God’s Plan and Pace. I set Different Like Me aside as I worked on the other projects the Lord had entrusted to me.

In 2018, shortly after submitting Waiting for God to my editor at Our Daily Bread Publishing, my agent and the editor who had loved Different Like Me in 2016 surprised me with two contract offers.

I scrambled to prepare my first children’s picture book proposal with the help of my friend and prolific children’s book author, Crystal Bowman. I submitted the proposal to several editors before prayerfully deciding to accept a contract from Our Daily Bread Publishing.

Then, I began praying for an illustrator who would avoid stereotypes and include children with special needs as heroes, not sideline characters. Bonnie Lui did a fabulous job. She weaved her own beautiful story into the gorgeous illustrations that breathe life into the whimsical rhyming text I’d written almost two decades earlier. Bonnie even created a character inspired by my service dog, Callie, a Border Collie/Hound mix we’d rescued in 2018 from a kill-shelter after God moved us from California to Wisconsin.

Earlier this year, as I prepared for the August 2020 release of Different Like Me, tragedy divided our world. I truly believe God delayed my path to publication so that He could prepare hearts to receive the message of love, unity, peace, and hope that He has brought to life through each page of Different Like Me.

Book Description:

Larry Crane brings the sensibility of the post-World War II generation and a family of modest means to his fresh new novelesque memoir, Up From Adams Street. Born at home, surrounded by a neighborhood of immigrant families that burst out of the confines of Chicago to buy a lot carved out of the corn fields astride the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy rail line. As the confessed family favorite, he had a lot of expectations heaped on his shoulders, along with a sense that he was destined to fulfill that destiny. He realizes that participating in sports is a potential entrée into worlds that seem beyond his little world. Plus, he loves the games. He plays baseball, football and basketball. He caddies at golf courses. As he grows physically, he senses the need to expand mentally and philosophically too. A scholarship helps, then a surprise appointment to West Point follows. At the military academy, he bends to discipline, survives mandatory boxing, battles mighty Notre Dame in basketball, pitches against the legendary Yankees, conquers Mechanics of Fluids, and Calculus, discovers F. Scott Fitzgerald, befriends Red Reeder, falls in and out of love, turns 23, and becomes a man.

Author Interview

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about writing a novel or a memoir?

I would advise that being too young or being too old is no excuse for not pursuing a desire to write. You need to prepare yourself for the task of writing a longer work though, and that involves cutting your teeth on shorter works first. Read short story collections like Nine Stories by J. D Salinger. Start out by conjuring something in your life that seems like a story to you. Put it down on paper or on a computer screen, stir and serve to a friend. Do it again and again. Study books on writing a novel or a memoir such as Writing a Novel by John Braine, Story Writing by Edith Ronald Mirrielees, The Weekend Novelist by Robert J. Ray. Get yourself to a point where you think you understand what constitutes a story of any length.

What is the most difficult part about writing for you?

Typing in the first several words is easily the hardest part! Having spent months conceptualizing a project, especially deciding on the voice that I want to use, putting the first words down on the computer screen takes me out of the theoretical realm and into the actual world where I can tell if it’s going to work or not. And am I going to be able to keep it up?

Is there lots to do before you dive in and start writing the story?

Yes. For my coming of age memoir Up from Adams Street, I spent a lot of time reading memoirs that are considered really good. Studying how the author avoided any temptation to simply record the what, where, and how of it all, without falling into a deadly dull, I did this, and that, and then I did this and that. I discovered that I needed to really work at developing scenes in which major cause and effect events are presented in a lively, novel-like way, showing instead of telling, with lots of dialogue.

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing Up From Adams Street?

Before I started writing it, I was set in my belief that my relationship with my father was such that I would decide on paths that I would follow in my life doing the opposite of what my father thought I should do. But I discovered in the development of the memoir that he was steps ahead of me, mostly on the right track, and that in setting goals, his aim was better and much higher than mine.

Is it easier to write thrillers or memoir?

I’ve published two thrillers, A Bridge to Treachery, and Missing Girls: In Truth is Justice, and one memoir, Up From Adams Street. Each genre has its challenges, of course. Readers of thrillers expect the story to leap off the page from word one, sending them on a mesmerizing journey, starring dynamic characters with interesting quirks, and a plot that twists, turns and never stops surprising. A memoir is different. Since I am not a celebrity, nor have I endured some heart wrenching cataclysm in my life, my memoir doesn’t recount scandalous behavior, tragedy, or near-death events. Rather, it touches readers with lively vignettes from my rather mundane life that bring similar experiences from the reader’s own life to mind, that resonate with them and ring true. It must be true, but that said, it is my truth, not the absolute truth. It’s much harder to write.

Tell us about your first published book? What was the journey like?

I was a complete novice. A subsidy publisher accepted my manuscript of A Bridge to Treachery, requiring a $3500 fee to handle all the standard pre-publication functions to deliver a real, live published novel in 6 months to a year. I gulped and accepted the deal. There was no sense of validation, something I desperately longed for. There was no marketing support. There were very few sales. Feedback from readers emphasized that the story was slow getting off the ground. At the end of three years I felt as though I should leave the publisher. I re-worked the novel by cutting out a lot of back story and energizing it by carving it into short chapters. I developed a better cover. I worked hard on two female characters to give them captivating personalities and new important roles in the story. I worked hard on marketing the Kindle version exclusively through Amazon and produced an audiobook version as well. Readers seem to like it.

Up From Adams Street Excerpt -”Uniform”

“Gentlemen, your classmate, Mr. Coughlin, is wearing his short-sleeved white shirt improperly. What do you suppose is improper about the way he is wearing his short-sleeved white shirt? Mr. Needs, what do you think?” Bullock asked.

“I don’t have the slightest…” Needs said, blinking.

“Say again, Mr. Needs.”

“Sir, I don’t know the answer, sir.”

“We don’t slap-in an extra ‘sir’ whenever we feel like it, Needs. Say it again.”

“Sir, I don’t know what’s wrong with the way he’s wearing

the shirt.”

“What shirt?”

“His short-sleeved white shirt, sir.”

“Good. The short-sleeved white shirt doesn’t fit snugly to Mr. Coughlin’s body. And it slops over his belt all the way around. That’s not the way we wear a shirt. Mr. Needs, step forward and stand in back of Coughlin. The rest of you move so you can see what’s going on.

“Now, Mr. Needs, grasp the fabric on both sides of your classmate. That’s it. Stab your thumbs in and pull the fabric back so that the shirt fits tightly both in front and back. Good. That, gentlemen, is what we mean by ‘dressing off ’ the shirt.

“Does anyone see a problem that can arise with this system of dressing off your roommate’s shirt for him? Buckley?”

“Sir, I don’t see the problem.”

“What if Coughlin didn’t have Needs or anyone else around to help him dress off his shirt? The answer is that we need to be able to do it without assistance. So, let’s try it. Everyone unbuckle your belt, pull your shirttails down, reach back and grasp the fabric on both sides, stabbing your thumbs in and pulling tight so the shirt fits snugly in front and back. Tuck it in and buckle your belt. Voilà! Any questions?

“Yes, Mr. Engler.”

“Sir, does this apply to all the shirts we wear, or just the white one?”

“Are you sure you want to ask such a ridiculous question, Engler?”

“No, sir.”

“Any other ridiculous questions about dressing off your shirt? Anyone? All right. From now on, you’ll be expected to wear all of your shirts properly. And—listen up carefully—no question is a ridiculous question. Asking means you’re thinking. Good work, Engler.”

Bullock led us outside to a huge grassy area called The Plain. In an hour or two, he taught us the rudiments of close-order drill, how to march, with the same precision he used with shirts, just in time to move in formation, en masse to Trophy Point overlook-ing the Hudson River to be sworn in. We learned how to wear the rest of the clothes issued to us, how to clean and care for our M1 rifles, how to perform the manual of arms, and how to properly perform push ups, squat thrusts, and all the other exercises we would run through every morning at the crack of dawn.

We trooped into the truly massive mess hall, trying to keep our eyes straight to the front instead of letting them wander up to the paneled ceiling fifty feet overhead or to the gigantic arched windows, or to the brooding mural occupying the back wall of the “mural wing” depicting scenes of military service through the ages. Bullock instructed us on how to eat.

I lowered my eyes to my plate. A silent ever-present question insisted: Will I ever find myself in this swirl of sensory immersion?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I don't read many memoir's so this book was a bit different for me. Street was a different take for me. I found this book intriguing. The story starts with a young boy on through his youth and to an adult. He seemed to be different than others and had many struggles as he strived to do the things other his age were conquering. Larry has a unique and special relationship with his dad, and there were many scenes throughout thos book that captures the love between the two. Which I found very heartwarming.

I like how author Larry Crane weaves this memoir together, as he let's the readers inside his heart and life, revealing a lot about himself. I believe this story can be for everyone. There is so much here. Everyone can find something that will be a delight! And the ma UK n thing I enjoyed about the story is it encourages everyone to follow their dreams. Though sometimes you may struggle along the way, don't give up. Keep moving! This book gets a full 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me!

Jordan’s Tips in Working with an Archangel

Listen when they tell you to do something
The angels have far more experience dealing with the fallen then I do, so I would advise to listen to them. I notice whenever I don’t listen to them, or whenever I am left to decide the outcome of a situation on my own, it usually ends up badly. Mainly with me getting hurt.

Expect the unexpected...at all times
Seriously. When I think I know everything there is to know about angels, they always surprise me with a new detail. Usually that’s really important, like how you’re not supposed to touch celestial objects.

Get used to their constant vigilance and protection
Angels don’t sleep. And they don’t eat. So, they constantly nurture me to make sure I’m taking care of myself. They also never leave my side. I typically have at least one angel with me wherever I go for protection. It’s better to get used to it than fight it. The angels are set in their ways.

Never forget they have a divine duty
Even though they’ve been on Earth for centuries, the angels are here for a reason. They have a divine purpose to defeat evil. It’s easy to forget because they are fun to be around, but when Satan shows up ready for a fight, the reality of who they are becomes all the more serious. Remembering this at all times helps to never underestimate the enemy.

Take the time to get to know them
Each of the angels are unique, and they all have different interests. Trying to understand them goes a long way in actually helping them save the world. It also just makes for good times since I’ve been able to learn so many new things from them.

And then she meets Max, who just might be the antidote she needs to recover completely. Until Andrew shows up again, ready to reconcile. And Shannon feels obligated to give him another chance.

When it all comes crashing down, can either of them trust God enough to let Him showcase the perfect imperfections of their lives?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Andrew is just a jerk! That's all it is to it. And Shannon is doing so much better after her move to her new little community and her new job. She still has her difficult struggles, no thanks to the ex, but her new friends were quick to help and support her.

I am happy to be able to read this debut by Konnie K. Viner and I enjoyed it very much. It is a pretty light read, and just what I needed at the time. This story deals with difficult relationships and secrets in some of the characters, but it also shows how God works in these situations as well. And I like how the author would keep my attention, with the little twists and turns that were sure to pop up throughout the story. This was a sweet story, with an element of faith throughout. If you need a sweet, nice light story to read, this one is a great one to check out. I think this one would be four Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

 More from Konnie

Amaryllis Journey is my second book, but first novel. It was written to bring to life one woman’s struggle to move out of the pain and insecurity of marital betrayal and divorce, into the light of God’s grace. Shannon Enright’s  new life is facilitated by a wise friend, Rose Daniels, who has been where she is and knows that what is broken is not useless and what is bare can bloom again.

Reeling from the pain and rejection of a nasty divorce, Shannon decides to start life over—in a new town, with a new job, new home, new friends. It isn’t easy, but things are finally starting to come together for her. Secrets from her marriage are still unfolding, but she grits her teeth and moves on. Looking for diversion, Shannon volunteers at a local florist shop and tearoom. There she finds more than she ever imagined.

Rose owns and operates the Amaryllis, a unique gift shop in Shannon’s new town. She repurposes broken household items, turning them into beautifully useful works of art. But Rose’s real purpose is to help others find beauty in the brokenness of life. She counsels young women like Shannon, showing them the quiet love of a faithful God and teaching them to trust His plan.

When Shannon’s ex returns, at first to sweet-talk and then to demand, it’s Rose’s counsel that keeps Shannon safe and sane. But Rose has been hiding her own dark and dangerous secrets, and her past is about to catch up with her.

When things come crashing down around them, will either woman find the strength to let God showcase the perfect imperfections of their lives?

——

I went through my own divorce ten years ago. I’ve experienced many of the same emotions and insecurities that Shannon does. I wrote her story so others can know that the disappointments and failures of your past don’t have to dictate what’s to come. When I chose to have Rose rescue cracked and broken pots and make them into something beautiful, it was with deliberate intent.

I love Rose’s passion for bringing beauty from the broken. Her repurposed containers carry the beauty of God’s creation (flowers) into the world. Our lives are like her art. We are vehicles for God’s grace. Our chips and cracks do not diminish His glory. They showcase His power and His redeeming love.

Publication of Amaryllis Journey was bittersweet for me because the character Rose was modeled after my mother who was my mentor. I did not tell Mom I was writing this book because “my” plan was to dedicate it to her. But God had other plans, and He called her home to Heaven suddenly before the book was completed. It is now dedicated to her memory.
