A simple assignment… turns into life and death... Is Lila Colton a thief? Insurance investigator Carter Finch vows to uncover the truth when he visits her gallery. But his temporary mission goes awry when Lila turns out to be incredibly beautiful… and just a bit lethal. A fire engulfs the building, which puts them both in harm’s way. Is Lila his ally or pushing him into a deadly trap?
(Affiliate links included.)
Excerpt “We have to get out of here,” Carter shouted. “Where’s the exit?” Lila pointed to the left. Smoke covered the back entrance and they couldn’t see. The fire alarm screeched in their ears. Carter grabbed her jacket and blouse and his jacket and then took her hand and ran into the hallway. “Maybe we can get out the front door.” Flames clawed at the front entrance like an angry monster, roaring and destroying what it touched. Carter, still holding her hand, rushed into her office. He looked around. “No windows.” There was one long window at the top but it wasn’t a potential exit. The gallery was fully secured. Without a key, there was no way to get in or out. “Wrap the blouse around your face to protect it and put your jacket on to protect your skin,” Carter said as he wrapped his jacket around his head and covered his mouth. “Try not to breathe too much of the smoke. I called 911 so someone should be here quickly. Just stay calm.” “Yeah, right.” Her hands shook and she tried to do as he’d asked, but that was impossible. The fire was all around them and no help was in sight. Excerpted from Forged in Fire by Linda Warren, Copyright © 2021 by Linda Warren. Published by Harlequin Romantic Suspense.

Publisher:  Embajadoras Press
Release date:  June 2021

Book Description:

When community leaders began to doubt Abel Mendoza, the law practice he had spent years building began to crumble. It was the 1960s and there was but a handful of Mexican lawyers in California. Abel had worked tirelessly to earn respect in the courts, avoiding any semblance of a personal life to achieve his goals. Now, his personal and professional lives had collided and he found himself being rejected by the community that had previously supported and admired him. His fears of inadequacy kindled, Abel began to question who he really was, what he did, and where he belonged. A desire to avoid these questions and the people who had provoked them sent this small-town lawyer on a trip to escape not only his community but his own self-doubts, and into a relationship that changed his life completely.

I encourage you to join me in reading this interesting GUEST POST by Ronald Ruiz, author of Lost and Found

I just finished reading Cities of the Plain by Cormac Mc Carthy.  It is the final book in Mc Carthy's Border Trilogy and that was my second reading of it.  I have read the other two books of the Trilogy, All The Pretty Horses and The Crossing several times. For me, Cormac McCarthy is the greatest American novelist.  What is so remarkable is that in  his trilogy Mc Carthy is writing about two countries, two people and two cultures, none of which were his birthright and which he didn't come to know until the thirties or forties of his life.

He was born in Tennessee to an aristocratic New England family who had moved to Tennessee when President Franklin Roosevelt appointed his father the head of the TVA. He was a misfit and after a year in college, joined the Air Force.  When he left the service he spent his time living and writing four novels about Appalachia and its people.

He then moved to El Paso, Texas and the southernmost part of the state of New Mexico and spent a lot of time in the mountains of Mexico. His heroes in the Trilogy are two young cowboys who live and work on a big cattle ranch in the United States near the Mexican border. Cowhands who actually have their living quarters in the horse stable. He writes about the life of working cowboys and their culture, just as  he writes about Mexican vaqueros and their culture in the mountains of Mexico.  He is fluent in Spanish and writes in Spanish in the Trilogy when apparently he thinks it is best and necessary.  Cormac Mc Cartthy is a remarkable man and writer, and the Border Trilogy is an incredible accomplishment.

And Now An Interview With The Author

What is my next project?

I want to write a novel about three youngsters who are about to be released from a juvenile correctional facility. I have taught in such a facility just as I have taught in an adult prison.  The big difference between the group of youngsters about to b e released and a group of adults about to be released is that there is so much more hope in the youngsters for what awaits them.

I plan to have the three youngsters come from completely different backgrounds and what they will be pursuing will be different as well.  What they did in the institution to prepare themselves for their release will again be different for each.  I'll hope to show that the three that came into the institution as wayward boys  will, after three and four years, will be leaving as responsible young men. I was fascinated by what I saw in the institution from some youngsters, fascinated enough to want to write about three of them  and hope that my readers will be fascinated by them as well.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

In Humanity's Cry for Change, Kate Heartsong gives us Actions You Can Take to Create a New Earth. It is true that people are more anxious that ever before because of the chaos in the world today. Heartsong is showing how each of us can help change our earth by interacting with each other through positive thinking and positive change. She quotes a lot of people, tells the scientific bases of how we should live with oneness in order to survive.

Heartsong has a lot of ideas about how we can connect with each other, but I was hoping for more of how we can help our world by doing things to help our environment. She did touch on this a little bit and it was things I have already heard. But want more in this area. If you are into changing yourself and changing this world by connecting with each other and thinking positive thoughts instead of the negative that is so relevant today, you may enjoy this book.

ABOUT EMERALD COTTAGE

She’s sweet & cozy mysteries. He’s fun & cozy flings.
Till a deadly secret reveals not-so-cozy things.

Twenty-five-year-old Molly Stewart—ex-Navy nurse and former evidence technician for the Charleston Police Department—has been burned by love. So when her friend, Pastor Chase Griffin, begs her to move to scenic Lake Loon to be a nurse and companion for Miss Lilly, his elderly landlady, she jumps at the chance. The secluded and cozy cottage on a clear mountain lake seems the perfect place to heal from her fiancé’s betrayal as well as indulge in one of her greatest passions—cozy romance. First with reading them by the bookcase and then hopefully, if dreams come true, writing and solving them one day as an author and detective. But when Miss Lilly’s estranged great nephew shows up, it’s no mystery as to why he and Molly butt heads. Because it only takes one stolen kiss—while she’s sleeping, no less—to discover he’s an even bigger player than the ex-fiancé who broke her heart.

When international playboy and Irish soccer star Brec McGill learns his long-lost great aunt is in a coma from a drowning accident, he rushes to her side. Not only is he anxious to reconnect with his only living relative he spent summers with as a boy, but her cottage on Lake Loon, Georgia is the perfect respite to heal from game injuries and escape a tabloid scandal. At thirty-three he’s disillusioned with the game, his fiancée, and life in general, craving nothing but a little peace and solitude to get his head on straight. But when he discovers his aunt’s cottage is not only inhabited by a crusty Aunt Lilly he hasn’t seen in years, but a pretty prude of a nurse as well, his plans take a nose-dive in the lake. Because suddenly it appears not only was Aunt Lilly’s accident no accident … but somebody out there wants to see them all dead.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wow! We all know Julie Lessman as writing heart stopping passionate Christian romance, and now she writes a sweet but intriguing cozy mystery with so many twists and turns you will be guessing whodunit throughout the entire book. Lessman nails it with her first Cozy mystery and I am looking forward to more just like this one from her. I think Sloan needs his own story, right? This cast of realistic characters quickly stole my heart. Of course Miss Lilly is my favorite, with Molly and Brec not far behind, and they had me laughing quite a bit. I was so excited to find characters from The Isle of Hope series in this story as well. I love that series so much. I love and appreciate the way Julie weaves the Christian life in the lives of her characters and the scripture she uses were ones I needed to hear. I also like the way she writes into the story intimate relationships after marriage. But there is romance here. Lots of it. And passionate it is, after all it is a Julie Lessman book and she knows her stuff when it comes to kissing and cuddling. And it is so nice to be able to read a sweet passionate romance that is clean!

I was hoping Molly and Brec would be an item, but Brec has so much baggage, will he ever be the man Molly needs? And then there is Sloan, a Christian and perfect gentleman. And in the mix there is still someone out there murdering people and it seems as though they have their eyes set on Emerald Cottage and Miss Lilly and Molly. Are their lives at risk? There's a lot of action going on in this story and there is no way to even touch on it all here, so you really need to read the book to find out what happens with these characters. And if you have read a Julie Lessman book, this is a great one to start with and you are certainly in for a treat. And you Cozy mystery lovers out there. This one is for you. The Secret of Emerald Cottage truly is a 50% suspense and 50% romance story, which is so amazing I give it Five Stars and I wish I could give it more.

Book Description:

Living with cerebral palsy is enormously difficult. But what if you never knew you had it? This is the incredible story of Ilana Estelle

Born the second of premature twins, from a young age Ilana knew she was different, but for all the wrong reasons. A child of the 60s, Ilana experienced first-hand the way that disability was so often brushed under the carpet and not spoken about. Her constant physical and mental struggles made her feel isolated, alone, frustrated, and misunderstood… it took 46 years for her to find out why.

Part memoir, part motivational guide, Cerebral Palsy: A Story is Ilana’s open and honest journey from an angry, confused child, knowing something was wrong, but not knowing what, to the ‘real’ her – a courageous woman using her experiences and lessons to create inspiring messages about mental and physical health, positivity, resilience and change.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Ilana Estelle writes such a special story in writing Cerebral Palsy: 'A Story' Finding the Calm After the Storm. My heart broke for her as she told of her childhood and growing up years, not knowing what was wrong with her. Of course her school mates and those around her made fun of her as she struggled with this disease that she had no idea about. It is so sad that she has no family support, or support from anyone. But Estelle is a fighter and the amazing story she tells here of her journey to healing is so heartwarming. I was in tears many timds reading this book. Ilana Estelle may have been angry growing up but she now has a loving, tender and caring heart and I pray that many will find help from their struggles with Cerebral Palsy, as well as other issues you may deal with. As she talked about food that would help with arthritis pain, she had my attention because I have been dealing with severe back and joint pain for many years. And I will look into this further to try to calm my pain. If you are dealing with Cerebal Palsy, especially, you need to read this story. And this is a great read for anyone. I enjoy knowing so much knowing more about this disease, and I want to keep on cheering Ilana on because of her strong spirit and for all of her achievements accomplished through the years. This book is certainly a 5 plus Stars.

An Interview With The Author

You refer to your website, The CP Diary in your book, how frequently do you write for that?

I add new content to my blog daily. What started out as a blog for me has turned into so much more, it helps others looking for help on-line too.

My writing helps me with what I get to deal with; it is the reason I continue to write as often as I do. I never stop learning, wanting to find out more about myself and the world.

Do you have a writing schedule?

I have never tied myself into a particular writing schedule as such. Writing can be quite addictive, the more I write, the more I want to write any time of day. The more I write, the more I want to know more, the more I want to write and learn more.

How original and unique is your book?

Finding out about my disability at the age of 46, even though I was originally diagnosed at 2, makes ‘my story’, and what I have written, original and unique. Also, I have written both books from a universal perspective and that makes my books original and unique. It doesn’t matter what we deal with, from a universal perspective, we may all relate to what I have written.

Your book contains several quotes from famous people - which is your favourite and why?

“The spiritual life does not remove us from the world but leads us deeper into it.” Henri J.M. Nouwen

Henri J.M. Nouwen’s words are simple and meaningful. Embracing spirituality can be a cathartic experience. For anyone who experiences a spiritual awaking, it truly is a life changing experience.

My own spiritual journey has changed my attitude and my life. If my words resonate with you, or you’re just starting out on your own spiritual journey, I would greatly appreciate you taking a moment to check out my books, Cerebral Palsy: A Story ‘Finding the Calm After the Storm’ and ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me.’ I know they can help.

And no matter what any of us deal with, please don’t lose sight of your vision, and trust the spiritual process, because it should never let you down. My mum used to say, life doesn’t come with a manual and life can be hard. Yes, spirituality can make life easier… and you’ve GOT this!

I know that no matter what I have had to deal with, or what I’ve had thrown at me over the years, spirituality has got me through my experiences and through the healing process and I am forever grateful.

How did writing your books put your demons to rest?

Writing my blogs for @TheCPDiary was the start of the process of me coming to terms with my experiences, but I could never know about my disability without writing my first book.

Writing my book Cerebral Palsy: A Story ‘Finding the Calm After the Storm’ was the start of understanding my life with my disability, the other part was understanding my journey, which I have done through my ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ book.

Through the process, I needed to understand myself and for others to understand me. I believe being able to rationale and understand our life and our experiences, are an important part of the healing and emotional process and putting some of those demons to rest.

Meet the Author:

Ilana was born with a disability she didn’t know she had until the age of 46, when through her medical notes she discovered she had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 2.

On her late diagnosis, Ilana set up her website The CP Diary and uses her experiences to explore her emotional and physical health, with an inspiring message advocating resilience and change.

Ilana likes to spend her days writing and blogging about anything that contributes to her health and well being. She is an animal advocate and is passionate about environmental issues. When she is not writing to tending to her blog, Ilana enjoys days out exploring the Yorkshire countryside. Ilana lives with her husband and their much-loved cat, in Yorkshire. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I wasn't sure what to expect from Spirituality, Healing and Me: How Living a Spiritual Life Offers Hope and healing in the Modern World. Turns on I found a lot of profound truth to what Ilana Estelle says. Dealing with a disability, it makes sense that connecting to one's self is essential in dealing with disabilities. I will admit that there are some things I'm not so sure about, but then other things are spot on. For 26 years I have been dealing with a different kind of disability than this author, but the facts are still the same. Some things I read, I already do them myself, but it was nice and interesting to read Estelle's viewpoint. There are a lot of statements in this book that I highlighted for future reference and I'm glad I had an ecopy of the book so I could do that, and always have it with me on my Kindle app on my phone. One thing that stood out to me is something I already knew, but reading it brings it to light even more for me. It is, and I'm quoting this from the book, "Being selfless means being focused on the needs of others, rather than our own needs. It is one of the most endearing qualities we can possess." An Interview With The Author

It couldn’t be helped.“Don’t cry, Mama.” His tiny voice broke through the silence. Small hands framed her face. “Pa’sin heaven, right?”Nodding at her son with his simple faith, she set her forehead on his, closing her eyes so hecouldn’t see her tears.Movement to her left gave her pause. Finding Love in Mountain View Movie Review

FINDING LOVE IN MOUNTAIN VIEW

GENRE: Romance

CAST

Danielle C. Ryan, Myko Olivier, John Paul Lavoisier

YEAR: 2019

SYNOPSIS:

Premiering on HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES on Sunday, September 19 at 9PM ET/PT!

Inspired by the book, Finding Love in Bridal Veil, Oregon, by Miralee Ferrell

After learning she’s been entrusted to take care of her deceased cousin’s children, an architect is torn between focusing on her career and honoring her cousin’s wish.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS MOVIE

Margaret had no idea how she would handle being mom to her cousins two children. And the children certainly didn't care for Margaret. There are many stressful moments in this movie. Neither Margaret nor Joel and Sammie were happy with the situation. After all Margaret and Susan hasn't contacted each other in many years and Susan hadn't mentioned their aunt the her children. Andrew being in the picture didn't help Margaret a lot at first. Being her old beau, she wasn't sure she wanted to be so much in contact with him.

This is a beautiful cast of characters and I love watching them in this film. I've watched it 3 times already! This is a movie about love and family. Finding Love In Mountain View will be a movie you will watch over and over with your family. You will love the family values, the emphasis on family, and just good family times in this movie. I love that this is a clean movie that you can watch with your children. I encourage you to watch this movie Sunday night and watch for it at other times on the Hallmark channel.

I love love this Movie.

.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Our Moon Festival is a unique book because it teaches children how the Japanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese communities celebrate the Moon Festival. I enjoyed reading this myself because this is all new to me. Features in the book is The Mid-Autumn Festival in Shanghai, The Ťet Trung Thu- The Vietnamese Moon Festival and Tsukimi Japanese Moon Festival.

The illustrations created be Christina Nel Lopez are outstanding, with bright vibrant colors that would catch anyone's eye on the bookshelves. I love the attention to details in each page of the book. And the way the illustrations to life is amazing. I think it is so neat to teach children about other cultures and their activities and author Yobe Qiu does a fabulous job of showing the details. This book should be in all elementary school libraries and it would be great in any place a child may go. Our Moon Festival by Yobe Qiu is Five Stars for me.
