My Review

FOR LOVE AND MERCY by C. Ingrid Deringer takes place in the early 1940's through to 2026, set in The Saskatchewan prairies, Olympia, Greece, and Canada’s West Coast. I really enjoyed this journey with these colorful characters as we get to each of these places in history. Deringer does a great job writing this story and all of the detailed scenes throughout the book shows her amount of research. The many emotions throughout this book caused some of the scenes to be so difficult to read, where others were more enjoyable. With the unique characters and the many twists and turns along with the fabulously written story, For Love and Mercy is is as close as realistic as you can get.

As far as who would enjoy this book, anyone would, and I hope you will give this book a try. For Love and Mercy gets Five Stars from me and don't forget to look it up at your favorite bookstore.

I received this book from the author through iReadBook tours. I was not expected to write a favorable review. The words here are totally my own.

Tomboy: A Jane Benjamin Novel by Shelley Blanton-Stroud

Join Us For This Tour from Oct 3 to Oct 21, 2022

BOOK DETAILS:

Book Title Tomboy: A Jane Benjamin Novel by Shelley Blanton-Stroud
Category:  Adult Fiction (18+), 308 pages
Genre Historical Thriller
Publisher She Writes Press
Release dates:   June 2022
Content Rating:
PG-13 + M. The F word appears exactly once in the book. There is a completely non-explicit sex scene. There is a suicide.

Book Description:

It’s 1939. Jane Benjamon’s got five days at sea to solve the murder of a Wimbledon champion’s coach and submit a gossip column that tells the truth. If not the facts.

On the brink of World War II, Jane wants to have it all. By day she hustles as a scruffy, tomboy cub reporter. By night she secretly struggles to raise her toddler sister, Elsie, and protect her from their mother.

But Jane’s got a plan: she’ll become the San Francisco Prospect’s first gossip columnist and make enough money to care for Elsie.

Jane finagles her way to the women’s championship at Wimbledon, starring her hometown’s tennis phenom and cover girl Tommie O’Rourke. Jane plans to write her first column there. But then she witnesses Edith “Coach” Carlson, Tommie’s closest companion, drop dead in the stands of apparent heart attack, and her plan is blown.

Sailing home on the RMS Queen Mary, Jane veers between competing instincts: Should she write a social bombshell column, personally damaging her new friend Tommie’s persona and career? Or should she work to uncover the truth of Coach’s death and its connection to a larger conspiracy involving US participation in the coming war?

Putting away her menswear and donning first-class ballgowns, Jane discovers what upper-class status hides, protects, and destroys. Ultimately—like nations around the globe in 1939—she must choose what she’ll give up in order to do what’s right.

My Review

Tomboy: A Jane Benjamin Novel by Shelley Blanton-Stroud is about Jane, struggling to raise her little sister and keep her from their mom, and working a job posing as a boy, because after all, as a young lady, she wasn't allowed to work a job. This story follows this young lady as she travels trying to find a better job so she can better take care of her sister. She does some pretty neat stuff, like traveling with no money, but it works for her. She's a pretty feisty character, determined to do what she must to take care of herself and her sister.

I didn't read the first book in this series, but this one seems to read well as a stand alone. I enjoyed the characters. I found them well created and developing well as the story unfolds, and they play their parts really well. I enjoyed the journey across oceans, and phenomenon writing of the author details each scene so well. At times I sat here thinking I was right along with this young lady enjoying the travels with her, as well as helping her find what she wanted. There are some moments I found quite humorous, but mostly there were more serious times. I enjoyed the writing of author Shelley Blanton-Stroud and I will be looking for more from her in the future. This is such an nice story for anyone to read, one that I highly recommend.

I received this book from the author through iReadBook tours. I was not expedited to write a favorable review. The words here are totally my own.
