Book Description:

What does Mommy do when she leaves for work? From giving medicine to using her stethoscope, Nurse Mommy’s job is important because she helps patients get better. But what about her family back home—does Nurse Mommy really have to go to work? Nurse Mommy by Kristyn Boland helps chikdren understand what the nurse they love is doing when they go to work at night.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Nurse Mommy certainly doesn't enjoy leaving her home and family all night when she goes to work, but she has a very important job that helps people when they are sick. She is usually on her feel most of the night as she goes from room to room taking care of her patients. We should all be thankful for nurses everywhere for their care for us, and sacrificing their time away from their family to do so. Kristyn Boland writes a beautiful story that is so much needed, and one about a job that I don't see many books written about.

I love love this sweet book. It's the first one about nurses I have ever read, and one that is so needed the explain to children who's mom is a nurse what she does when she works. I sure am glad we have so many woman and men today who went to many years of school to teach them how to take care of those who are sick. This story is so precious, the little one so adorable, your child will will want you to read it over and over to them. And I can't leave out the oh so adorable illustrations created by Vanessa Alexandre. I love the beautiful cover, with its bright vibrant colors and the characters that are so very cute. The inside of the book is filled with the same adorable and sweet characters with the bright and beautiful background. I love that after you have read Nurse Mommy by Kristyn Boland to your small child for a while, they will be able to look at the pictures and 'read the story because they have memorized the words. This book is so very well and perfectly written, illustrated and formated, this will be the first book children will pull from shelves anywhere they see it. Nurse Mommy Kristyn Boland is a book that should be in daycare and school libraries, and classrooms as well as anywhere else children will be. Wouldn't Nurse Mommy be a wonderful gift to Dr. offices and the children's unit at hospitals? Nurse Mommy is Five Stars for me.

Join me in reading an interesting interview with Kristyn Boland

  1. What made you write a book about a “Nurse Mommy”?

When my son was just a few months old I thought it would be nice to get a book for my husband to read him when I left for work at night. I thought there would certainly be a book about a night shift nurse going to work, to help explain to children where their moms are. But there wasn’t, so I decided I would try to write that book myself!

  1. So did you write the book specifically for your son?

I dedicated the book to my son, Owen. He was the baby I had in mind when I wrote it. But I also wrote this book envisioning my husband reading it to our son, so in a way I wrote it for him too. But I also want this book to be relatable for all children whose mommies leave for work at night!

  1. How does your son react when you go to work?

I was SO worried he would get upset when I had to go to work, and it would make it even harder to leave him. Funnily enough, he never gets upset when it’s time for me to leave! He says “bye bye” when he sees me in my scrubs! Now we just had a little girl in April and even though she’s still so little, I have a feeling she might be the one who has a harder time with me leaving. She’s a momma’s girl!

  1. What are your hopes for this book?

If this book can help one child who’s sad when their mom has to leave for work at night, I will consider it a success.

  1. If there were one thing you want readers to remember about you, what would it be?

I guess I want them to know that I’m not a writer by trade, just someone who had an idea for a book I thought that others and myself might enjoy. So if you have a good idea for a book, just try!
