MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

 

 

Dr. Hope A. Walter, EdD writes the cutest story about her English  Bulldog Punk and her life's journey. Punk had a rough time in her early life. She was neglected by her first family, they were good to Punk at first and then she became too much trouble for them. When a rescue person found punk she began a new life, first at the dog rescue and then she was adopted my another family who loves her. But it wasn't easy to trust again. To trust that this new family would really take care of her. It too her a while to trust again as well as heal from what she had been through. 

 

I love this book about Punk. Walter does a fabulous job of letting Punk tell her own story so children will listen and learn how to deal with neglect. Children will love the adorable Punk and will want to listen to this story and hear the valuable lessons she is telling them. The author does a great job of detailing everything her dog went through to heal, trust and belong to his new family. 

 

This book wouldn't be complete without the adorable illustrations by Susi B. Davis. Punk is adorable, and the watercolors on each page bring the story to life. I can see children wanting to read this book over and over again. Triumphant Tails of Rescue Dogs: Punk's Plight is not only good for libraries and School rooms, it is also a great book for counselors, social workers and any others that would with children who suffer from neglect. I highly recommend The Triumphant Tails of Rescue Dogs: Punk's Plight by Dr. Hope A. Walter, EdD to everyone. It is such a sweet read. This book is Five Stars for me.

Meet the Author:

Hope A. Walter, Ed. D grew up in East Greenville, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Upper Perkiomen High School, Hope received her B.S. in Elementary Education at Kutztown University in 1996, her M.S. in Educational Psychology in 2002 from the University of Las Vegas in Nevada, and her Ed.D in Educational Leadership in 2018. Currently, Hope resides in McMinnville, Oregon with her husband of 25 years, her 3 boys, and her 2 dogs and 2 cats. She works as an adjunct professor at Linfield University and Oregon State University teaching mathematics education and educational psychology to future teachers.

Punk’s Plight was conceptualized after teaching future teachers about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Hope saw the connection between ACES and the journey of her own bulldog, Pumpkin, who was neglected, rescued, and spent the rest of her life learning how to trust and love again. Sadly, Pumpkin passed away peacefully in November 2020 after a long life with the Walter family. Hope wants Punk’s story to help children suffering from neglect by showing children they can recover, heal, and prosper despite experiencing neglect.
