MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
The Future of Buildings, Transportation and Power is a very interesting book on how or lives can change in the future. From cars that drive.themselves, to buildings being built to heal themselves, to vehicles running on electricity, and so much more will have you in awe, as well as a bit scared in what our future brings. In this book, authors Michael E. Webber and Roger Duncan researched information for years, and wrote about what they have found could happen in our future. With some changes, it can be more in the near future, for for others, can take a long while. Expense is a big factor in it all.
I have to admit much of this book is over my head, but yet much of it I could easily understand. The author's do a marvelous job explaining each section of the book in more simpler details, helping me to understand this book much better. I found it interesting that much of what is discussed in this book it already happening, though on a smaller scale. And there is fascinating discussions in this book on the importance of climate and how it does and will even more have a huge part of our future. I enjoyed reading examples of what out lives could be like in future generations.
I feel this book would be interesting to everyone. There is some bit of information that can be of use to just about anyone. And if nothing else, read it to see what these two guys think may happen to our future world. I really enjoyed reading this book, and glad I learned a little more about not only what will happen to our future, but what changes are already going on. I give this book Five Stars for the wealth of information here, and they simple and understanding way they presented this information.

Like many people, my wife and I are eager to travel again. We have traveled to most parts of the world, but our favorite places are in the rainforest. We have been to the Amazon several times in Brazil, Ecuador and Peru. The Napa Wilderness Lodge in Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world and on one trip we were able to see nine monkey species. We also loved the bird watching and especially the early morning canoe trips down dense jungle tributaries. Our Amazon accommodations have ranged from rustic, but comfortable, cabins to more luxurious rooms aboard a Peruvian boat with outstanding cuisine.
But we also love the beach and one place we can get both is Costa Rica, which will probably be our first vacation after the pandemic lockdown ends. Costa Rica has done an outstanding job preserving their rainforest and the birding is among the world’s best. Also, Costa Rica has a range of different types of rainforests. The forest on the Caribbean side has gorgeous canals with dense jungle and is still close to beaches. Monteverde, in the center of the country, has a unique cloud forest with the rare Quetzal and howler monkeys. And our most recent favorite spot is the Lookout Inn in the Osa peninsula on the Pacific side. We can see monkeys, macaws and other wildlife from our veranda, which also overlooks the ocean. If the season is right, we might even see new sea turtles being born. And it is adjacent to one of the largest rainforest preserves in the country, which will occasionally surprise us with visitors like tapirs or anteaters.
A perfect vacation day for us is an early morning canoe ride for birdwatching in the jungle, followed by lazy reading overlooking the jungle and ending with a walk on the beach at dusk. And we have been amazed at how often we have found that. Can hardly wait.
Roger Duncan is a former Austin, Texas City Council member and the former General Manager of Austin Energy, the municipal electric utility. He is also a former Research Fellow at the Energy Institute at the University of Texas.
Michael E. Webber is the Josey Centennial Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas, and Chief Science and Technology Officer at ENGIE, a multi-national energy services and ingrastructure company.
